ED//Update

Updated the blog with a new banner, I've been thinking of getting my own website started and I designed a new logo for it/business cards I've been working on. Just archiving the old banner here I guess.

HEY GUYS. MORE DBR STUFF.

I decided before I do steadfast I'm gonna do a quick not-so-serious album called "Borealis".

HERE'S THE ART FOR IT.

Self Portraiture is Rad

Seeing as I haven't done much worthy of posting, here, have another picture of me displaying my self-professed skills at photography and being photogenic haha. Not much art has been worked on lately since I'm trying to take a break and keep from getting burnt out. Working on music here and there, trying to to be too torn up over my breakup with Ben and all that noise. Hmm what else. Oh yeah. My roommates got me totally infatuated with Glee. Also with all their drooling over the musical "Wicked" I can't get the song Defying Gravity out of my head, moreso because they sing it in Glee. UGH. So I've titled this picture a bazillion times after the lyrics from that song.

I'd sooner buy defying gravity, kiss me goodbye I'm defying gravity, I think I'll try defying gravity.

And you can't hold me down.

PURE PAIN

WELL HOWDY KIDS. It's Furry Jacob Bannon Deathcore messy art time!

Finally something I'd call official art for Dawn Brings Revenge. Spent a few hours on this this morning and I figured I'd post a quick WIP of it.

01
This is actually a bunch of different things crammed into one, I deleted the sketch layer of course so that's not there, this has the background I loosely threw in so I could tell what was going on and some other basic things. I think at one point the skull was a separate layer from the flesh/fur but I merged it to simplify (this thing had a TON of layers). Don't mind the white splatter, that came in later as I was doing some editing and uh, yeah.

02
This is just the teeth and some more detail added, or something I dunno, none of this until later in the WIP is exactly in order, that's what I get for making the WIP AFTER I do the piece and not DURING.

03
Adding the fur and probably other stuff I dunno.

04
Here I added a layer with a low opacity over the background I made in Art Rage just to add a little bit of brush stroke and feel to it, then added the dark stuff around the edges just throw in some depth and keep the background from getting too bright.

05
WHAT I DO BEST. MESSES. I don't even know, I think there's about 10+ layers of splatter brushes in this.

06
Added some coffee ring stains just to bring focus to the dead/dying/idk wolfdude.

07
Cool little thing I picked up from J Bannon, drew a shoddy little sketch of a screw made to look as if a picture of one with a TON of contrast or something, and transformed it (ctrl+alt+shift+t) at 6 degrees uhhh, I think about 52 times or something like that, you can count all of those if you want, I don't feel like it. Afterwards there were 50+ layers of screws so I merged them all down into one layer. I threw a splatter eraser over them to add some texture to it then reduced the opacity a tiny bit.

08
Lastly, what I always do, threw a layer of grunge texture over everything just to add some character. :)

FUN STUFF EH?

I destroy furry art haha, this is a mess.

All Time Low//UMBRELLA

I have no idea where I've been, considering how much I love Attack Attack!, ADTR, ABR and TDWP, I should've heard this before now but I've had All Time Low's cover of Rihanna's Umbrella on repeat forever. I mosdeff feel the lyrics so I busted some art out.

Pfffft, you'd expect me to not feel the same? I don't change much I guess.

DAWN BRINGS REVENGE!

Not just Misery Signals lyrics anymore, what say you to me maybe making a deathcore-ish project after I get my next GOTA album out of the way? ;3

WHAT THE FONT?

Possibly the most useful site I'll find all year and 2010 just got started.

RMFC AND OTHER HONORS

So the Dealer's Room Director of RMFC (Rocky Mountain Fur Con if you don't know) contacted me via note a few days ago explaining they had taken interest in my shirts and that it was something they wanted to have sold at their con if I was interested in getting a table. Needless to say I was pretty surprised and flattered, but unfortunately I don't believe I can make it to RMFC this year and even if I COULD, I don't see myself affording tons and tons of shirts from RedBubble just to sell there. I explained this and the Director who already had been pretty damn nice offered to take a flier or business cards from me to put out so I could at least get some publicity, here's my first design for the flier.

Among other things, Alex Vance (who is a RAD dude) the writer/publisher of Heathen City, owner of Bad Dog Books and co-founder of SoFurry.com got in contact with me to possibly do some stuff though I won't disclose specifics just yet, we'll just say he thinks I'm a typographic powerhouse and he wants to put that to use as well as whatever other art I can bust out for him.

All in all, I'd say those two initial notes from them (received on the same day no less) got me pretty damn excited! I've been waiting for an opportunity like this to come along and I'm certainly hoping this becomes something wonderful! I know internet fame amounts to nothing and I'm not looking to be the next Adam Wan, nor do I really plan on furry being my life career, but it'll definitely be awesome for now and certainly provide some good portfolio material. All I can say is the $20 I spent on getting that banner up on FA is one of my best investments ever.

Here's hoping! :D

LLSS

So if you can't tell by now, typography and photography are 2 of my favorite elements of design, it just so happens that I'm vain enough to use myself as the subject matter when I combine the two sometimes. I decided instead of a drawing I wanted an actual picture of me for my redbubble page and threw this together from another picture I took for facebook and whatnot. I hope someday I'm famous enough (ahurrr) to invest in a canon rebel because my powershot's 7.1 megapixels just aren't cutting it anymore. The lighting in this is HEAVILY edited in Lightroom and Photoshop because my camera just does NOT handle low lighting well and considering I broke the flash last year well, there's not much I can do about it. Anyone care to donate $600 to the purchase of a new camera for me? Anyone? Nahhhhh, didn't think so.

The font in this as usual is my staple favorite, Avenir set to 55 and 35 weights. I wish I had discovered Photoshop's paragraph and text editing stuff sooner, I feel kind of stupid for taking so long to do so. Oh well, better late than never. Damn I love that scarf.

BOOKS FROM ME?

I've been thinking of doing some book writing. Maybe I'll do it, maybe I won't. We'll see, either way at least I got some cool design ideas for it. Obviously named after We Came As Romans songs but yeah. Just wanted to share.

The fonts are Helvetica bold and Avenir set at 35 weight. The textures are grunge from zentextures.com and the brushes are from bittbox.com.
