Possibly the most useful site I'll find all year and 2010 just got started.

RMFC AND OTHER HONORS

So the Dealer's Room Director of RMFC (Rocky Mountain Fur Con if you don't know) contacted me via note a few days ago explaining they had taken interest in my shirts and that it was something they wanted to have sold at their con if I was interested in getting a table. Needless to say I was pretty surprised and flattered, but unfortunately I don't believe I can make it to RMFC this year and even if I COULD, I don't see myself affording tons and tons of shirts from RedBubble just to sell there. I explained this and the Director who already had been pretty damn nice offered to take a flier or business cards from me to put out so I could at least get some publicity, here's my first design for the flier.

Among other things, Alex Vance (who is a RAD dude) the writer/publisher of Heathen City, owner of Bad Dog Books and co-founder of SoFurry.com got in contact with me to possibly do some stuff though I won't disclose specifics just yet, we'll just say he thinks I'm a typographic powerhouse and he wants to put that to use as well as whatever other art I can bust out for him.

All in all, I'd say those two initial notes from them (received on the same day no less) got me pretty damn excited! I've been waiting for an opportunity like this to come along and I'm certainly hoping this becomes something wonderful! I know internet fame amounts to nothing and I'm not looking to be the next Adam Wan, nor do I really plan on furry being my life career, but it'll definitely be awesome for now and certainly provide some good portfolio material. All I can say is the $20 I spent on getting that banner up on FA is one of my best investments ever.

Here's hoping! :D

LLSS

So if you can't tell by now, typography and photography are 2 of my favorite elements of design, it just so happens that I'm vain enough to use myself as the subject matter when I combine the two sometimes. I decided instead of a drawing I wanted an actual picture of me for my redbubble page and threw this together from another picture I took for facebook and whatnot. I hope someday I'm famous enough (ahurrr) to invest in a canon rebel because my powershot's 7.1 megapixels just aren't cutting it anymore. The lighting in this is HEAVILY edited in Lightroom and Photoshop because my camera just does NOT handle low lighting well and considering I broke the flash last year well, there's not much I can do about it. Anyone care to donate $600 to the purchase of a new camera for me? Anyone? Nahhhhh, didn't think so.

The font in this as usual is my staple favorite, Avenir set to 55 and 35 weights. I wish I had discovered Photoshop's paragraph and text editing stuff sooner, I feel kind of stupid for taking so long to do so. Oh well, better late than never. Damn I love that scarf.

BOOKS FROM ME?

I've been thinking of doing some book writing. Maybe I'll do it, maybe I won't. We'll see, either way at least I got some cool design ideas for it. Obviously named after We Came As Romans songs but yeah. Just wanted to share.

The fonts are Helvetica bold and Avenir set at 35 weight. The textures are grunge from zentextures.com and the brushes are from bittbox.com.

GOTA: Everlasting 2.0 Album Art

I decided recently that I really hated the artwork I made for my "Everlasting" album and my roommate JP who has worked with me on my music before inspired me with artwork from one of his own EPs to just go ahead and whip up something completely new for it. Here I'll show you how I went from a new canvas to the finished product.

1. I started out with just a basic sketch of a coyote drawn in Sai, it looks like a wolf but either way it works.

2. I added an image of the Andromeda Galaxy just to give it a spacey feel... or something like that. There's actually 2 layers, one is desaturated, the second is colorized teal with a reveal all layer mask and a gradient applied to it.

3. & 4. LOTS of layering with grunge textures and stock images of old school maps.

5. Splatter Brushes

6. Cloud Brushes

7. Stock images thrown in of engine diagrams, sprockets and a compass rose, inverted then set to screen in the blend mode.

8. The final product. The font I used for Everlasting is called Jersey Stories!, you can get it from Dafont.com and the GOTA logo (hard to notice I know, I wanted it like that) is just the orignal logo designed with the Aristotle Punk font.

And there you have it, album art.

PAINTY EDGE WIP

I've finally gotten around to trying my hand at a painterly style again, this time with better results than the first time I tried. This little doodle was mostly Sai and PS CS4 but I just got Art Rage so once I start getting commissions for them I'll maybe give Art Rage a shot. I just wanted to post a WIP of some sort since it's been a while. I completely forgot I did this in only 3 layers, though I deleted the initial sketch layer because I'm so cool like that. :V

INKS

COLOR/PAINTING/IDK WHAT TO CALL THIS

FINAL/BACKGROUND

Sooooo there you have it, it looks pretty simple with only 3 layers but I think I spent hmmmm, probably 4 hours on this or something. Getting digital painting down is definitely not easy but the outcome is worth the work.

Watercolor Brushes Revived!

Finally got a new WORKING link up (thanks to Moreck for hooking me up with my own resources) of my watercolor Photoshop brushes. Packs I through IV condensed into a masterpack. Enjoy!

Uhhhhh, changing the blog to E|D but I think I'm going to keep the resources as DIDY. IDK.
